The Third Day

References to the third day in scripture have some fascinating connections with the ministry of Christ. Here are some with brief explanations from Genesis to II Samuel

God created water, land, plants, the first life (Genesis 1:9-13)

On the third day Abraham took his son Isaac to Mount Moriah to sacrifice him, yet a male sheep was provided as a replacement. A powerful sign of the redemption of Christ on the Cross, (the Lamb who comes to take away the sins of the World) (Genesis 22:4-5)

Simeon and Levi make bloody and brutal retaliation on Shechem (which is Sychar) on the third day after their circumcision, because of the sinful seduction of their sister, Dinah. An anti-prefigurement of when Christ met the Samaritan woman (in Sychar) and forgave her her sins.(Genesis 34:25)

The third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, he lifted up the head of the Cup Bearer (who carries the wine cup) and lifted off the head of the Chief Baker (bread,) and hung him on a tree. A powerful image of sin, the Cross and Communion (bread and wine)(Genesis 40:20)

Joseph released his brothers from captivity, mimicking Christ; "“The Spirit of the Lord is on me... to proclaim release to the captives." (Luke 4:18, Isaiah 61:1)

The third day; (After the third month after freedom) God came down upon mount Sinai in the sight of all the people and spoke to Moses. (Exodus 19)

Whatever remains of the meat of the sacrifice on the third day shall be burnt in fire. (That it might not decay... Jesus was the sacrifice was not dead beyond the third day... "I will never let my holy one see decay." (Psalm 16:10)) (Leviticus 7:17)

Purification on the third day, and on the seventh day he shall be clean. (Numbers 19:12, 31:19)

Joshua, who had made peace with the Gibeonites, discovers their deception. (Joshua 9:17)

The children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day. (Judges 20:30)

David and Jonathan agree that David should run away (to Bethlehem) Jonathan will warn him on the third day (I Samuel 20)

On the third day David discovers his town Ziklag sacked. After asking the Lord, David pursues his enemies (which have carried off his family) and defeats them.(I Samuel 30)

On the third day David discovers a man who claims to have killed Saul, the Lord's anointed [annointed means Christ.] David orders him killed.(II Samuel 1)

Signs and Wonders in an age of reason

Post-enlightment, intrest in mysteries and symbols became strictly acedemic. Not poet modernism is threatening some of that certainty as to what is significant and what is not. This is a forum for the exploration of what I'll call pre-modern spiritual rationalism. Explore with me the wonders of biblical symbols.
